One of the best parts of our job is seeing the incredible projects our customers bring to life. From boat repairs to custom car parts, the versatility of composites never ceases to amaze us. But every now and then, a project lands in our inbox that truly makes us stop and stare.
This week, we are thrilled to feature a project by our talented customer, Bill. He took on the ambitious task of building parts for his Newtonian telescope, and the results are nothing short of stellar. Using our Carbon Fiber Twill for the optical tube assembly and the mounting rings, Bill created a piece of equipment that is as functional as it is beautiful.

Why use carbon fiber?
1. Superior stiffness and stability
Carbon Fiber Twill offers an incredibly high strength-to-weight ratio. For a telescope tube, stiffness is critical to maintain optical alignment.
2. Lightweight portability
Large telescopes can be heavy and awkward to transport. By utilizing carbon fiber for the main tube and the rings, Bill significantly shaved down the weight of the setup.
A closer look at Bill’s build
Bill utilized Carbon Fiber Twill to craft the two most critical structural components of his setup: the main optical tube and the mounting rings.
The aesthetic finish of the 2x2 twill weave gives the telescope a professional, high-tech look that stands out immediately. The glossy finish over the black carbon fabric creates that classic depth and shimmer that composite enthusiasts love.

We love seeing how our community pushes the boundaries of what is possible with fiberglass, carbon fiber, and resin. Bill’s telescope is a perfect example of how industrial materials can be used for delicate, precision instruments in the hobbyist world.
Whether you are looking to build scientific equipment, upgrade your car, or repair a surfboard, we have the composites you need to get the job done right.
A huge thank you to Bill for sharing his work with us. It is inspiring to see such craftsmanship!
Do you have a project you’re proud of? We’d love to see it. Send us your photos to sales@fiberglasswarehouse.com and a brief description of your process, and you might be featured in our next Customer Spotlight.
