Polyester Resin

POLYESTER RESIN is the most common and affordable resin in the industry. It is easy to use and is catalyzed with MEKP (methyl ethyl ketone peroxide).

Polyester resin has a quick cure time and adds dimensional stability to parts. It is commonly used in building and repairing boats, car bodies, surfboards, kayaks, outdoor ponds, patio decks, aircraft plus more.

There are several types of polyester resins including ortho general purpose laminating resin and ISO resin. Ortho general purpose laminating resin is the most popular. It is used for general applications. ISO is a superior grade polyester laminating resin that is stiffer and has a better corrosion resistance.

Polyester resin without wax cures with a surface tack which helps multiple layers adhere to each other. Wax (surfacing agent or surface seal) can be added to the resin on the final layer to create a tack free surface. A finish resin can be purchased instead of adding wax. A finish resin contains the wax needed for a hard finished surface
