Orca Air Dry Super Clear Coating Additive creates an air cure enamel like coating when blended 1:1 with gel coats. It restores molds to like new condition when blended with tooling gel coats. This super clear coating creates a glass like appearance that is scratch resistant and buffs to a super hi-gloss finish. It cures at room temperature with the addition of MEKP catalyst. No air-dry additive is required with this coating. You can get a practically walk-a-way gloss finish with Orca Air Dry Super Clear Coating.

Popular Uses

-Gelcoat additive for air cure application

-Blended with gel coat for repairs

-Top coat over clear primers

-Architectural wood crafts

-Automotive interior composites parts-clear coating

-Top coat over clear primers or pigmented colors for depth.

Needed Supplies (this will vary depending on your project):

Preparation

-Work in a well-ventilated area.

-Wear proper safety clothing including gloves and a face mask

-Make sure the coating, resin, room and the surface you are working on are heated up to room temperature.  The ideal temperature to work in is 77 degrees Fahrenheit .

-Prepare surface by sanding with 220 grit sandpaper

-Clean surface with isopropyl alcohol (acetone not recommended)

Application

-Use a graduated mixing cup to measure the coating

-Catalyze at 2% with MEKP catalyst. That is .5 ounces per quart.

-Mix thoroughly.

-It is optimal to use a HVLP spray gun at an air pressure of 25-45 PSI

-Maintain 12”-18” distance between gun and surface

-Start with a flash coat - 2 mils. Wait 2 minutes then start to build coats of 47 mils per pass. Wait approximately 5 minutes between coats. If the temperatures are cooler, wait 20 minutes between coats. If you exceed 90 minutes, you must let cure, sand, and then resume build coats.

-Optimal build of 16 mils.

-Cure at room temperature for 24 hours prior to sanding and polishing.

Handling and Storage

Closed super clear additive and MEKP containers should be stored in a cool, dry place. It should be stored at temperatures below 77°F and away from heat sources, sunlight and flames.

Important Notes

-Do not add too much MEKP.  If too much hardener is added, the finished product can be prone to fractures or it can create too much heat in the mixing cup.

-If you do not add enough MEKP, the additive may never cure.

***Always try out a small test batch first.
