Question hi, I purchased epoxy and 1708 glass to redo boat stringers. all done came out great! now its time for boat deck. 19' eastern. what should I use over my 3/4 marine plywood? type cloth, epoxy or laminating resign? thanks Dave

Answer Hey David, you went above and beyond when you used epoxy with 1708 on the boat stringers. You can use one of layer 1708 with epoxy on the deck. It will last forever. If you want to save a little money and the wood is structurally sound, use vinyl ester resin with 2 layer of 1.5 oz chopped strand mat. Then top it with a coat of un-waxed gel coat and a layer of wax gel coat that has silica mixed into it for some grip.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hey I’m replacing the floors on my boat it’s about 7×12 how much resin and cloth will I need and what’s the best to use epoxy or polyester.

REPLY from fgwarehouse: So, you have about 10 square yards you need to cover.

So I would use 2 layers of 1.5 oz chopped strand mat with vinyl ester resin. The VE resin will so a better job of waterproofing the deck.

20 yards of chopped strand mat
    3 gallon of VE resin
    6 oz MEKP
    1 gallon white gel coat

Add one coat of gel coat with out wax, and one layer with wax and silica. The wax is the Surface Seal.
    4 oz Surface seal
